David Woodward
CEO
David Woodward is the Chief Executive of CompassRock International, a firm that provides asset management and property management services to the rental housing sectors globally. David brings 30 years of experience and leadership in real estate investment, asset management, property management, development and construction for some of the world’s premier public and privately held real estate companies. David is also the Chief Executive of Global Apartment Advisors (GAA), a consultancy firm focused on the rental housing sectors.
Purpose-built, institutionally-owned and professionally managed rental housing sectors, similar to what have existed in the U.S. for several decades, are in the early stages of being established in many countries around the world. David is at the forefront of this global shift, drawing on his extensive U.S. and international experience. As Brookfield’s former Global Head of Multifamily, David saw first-hand this trend emerging. This led David to expand the CompassRock platform and brand into international markets.
Previous experience:
Global Head of Multifamily, Brookfield (NYSE:BAM) – one of the largest asset managers and real estate investors in the world with an AUM of over $600 billion. David was responsible for a rental apartment portfolio of over 50,000 units, as well as providing strategic advice on the development of large rental housing projects in major cities in the U.S. and international capitals, including Canary Wharf in London and Potsdamer Platz in Berlin.
Founder, CompassRock – a leading provider of institutional-quality asset and property management services to the residential and commercial sectors in the U.S., originally founded in partnership with Fortress Investment Group (NYSE: FIG). Most notably, David and his team were responsible for the dramatic turnaround of Stuyvesant Town in New York City – the largest rental apartment community in the U.S. totalling 11,232 units and 30,000 residents of Manhattan. This achievement culminated in a sale to Blackstone for $5.4 billion – the largest single-asset transaction in U.S. real estate history.
CEO, The Laramar Group – an investment and property management firm focused primarily on U.S. multifamily. David assembled a portfolio of owned and third-party managed properties totalling over 40,000 rental apartment units, as well as a nationwide commercial portfolio. He was responsible for growing Laramar into a widely recognised and well-regarded national platform.
Senior Vice President, Security Capital Group (NYSE: SCZ) and its affiliate, Archstone Communities (NYSE: ASN) – one of the largest and best regarded U.S. apartment REITs with a portfolio that totalled approximately 75,000 units. At Archstone, David held key positions in Asset Management, Property Management and the New Ventures Group where he identified and funded start-up companies related to the real estate industry. The New Ventures Group created many companies that transformed the industry, including the leading online resident screening company, SafeRent (now part of CoreLogic), and the leading online revenue management company, LRO (now part of RealPage).
David has held the following positions:
Senior Advisor to Quintain (parent company Lonestar) which is developing the largest rental apartment project in the UK with over 6,000 units at Wembley Park.
