CompassRock ESG Policy
The built environment is, by its nature, an energy intensive sector, from the embodied carbon in the structure and materials to the GHG emissions arising from the in-use operation of buildings. National and global environmental targets and legislation are driving awareness and urgent action within the real estate sector and at CompassRock we acknowledge our individual responsibility in aiding the transition to a greener and more sustainable economy through our corporate governance and the application of ESG measures and practices within the assets we manage.
The real estate investment community is increasingly taking a more holistic and responsible approach and is incorporating ESG considerations into investment decision-making. CompassRock recognises the value of greater industry transparency and reporting on ESG issues, and that how we integrate ESG policies into the management of assets can influence financial performance and reputation. ESG is a fundamental part of CompassRock’s DNA and is integrated into every stage of the lifecycle, through design, development and operation, in order to mitigate climate risk and ensure long-term value preservation. We are committed to future-proofing the assets we manage and have identified nine key priorities within the UN Sustainable Development Goals where CompassRock believes it can make a positive impact.
We prioritise the physical and mental wellbeing of residents and employees and encourage healthy lifestyles through the provision of amenities, outside space, pet-friendly policies and events, as well as active monitoring and management of human comfort in the internal environment.
We aim to accelerate the transition to renewables by making informed purchasing choices on the type of energy we utilise and gain a greater understanding of how and where energy is used across the properties we manage and what we can do to reduce it.
We adhere to all regulatory requirements to protect labour rights and prevent modern slavery, including through the supply chain.
We maintain an exceptional standard of health & safety and security in the environments we control.
We support local employment and local suppliers/businesses.
We support flexible working for our employees and third-party contractors.
We utilise our in-house experience and global network to monitor best practice and, where appropriate, integrate new processes and/or technologies into the properties we manage to improve performance.
We promote diversity and inclusion and ensure that residents and everyone working on our behalf, in an environment we control, are given equal opportunities and protected from discrimination.
We respect human rights and promote fair, ethical treatment of residents and everyone working on our behalf and in our supply chain.
We maintain an ongoing, open dialogue with all stakeholders and implement operational policies and procedures, including feedback and complaints handling, to ensure all residents and employees are treated fairly and have a voice.
We create high quality spaces and places that are professionally managed, customer service-oriented and community-focused, encouraging bottom-up engagement to help our residents and rental communities thrive in the long term.
We actively monitor and measure energy use intensity, water and waste to minimise consumption, waste production and pollution and establish targets at property level to improve performance.
We educate and encourage residents to partake in sustainable practices.
We provide tools and resources to engage our employees and suppliers on sustainability issues.
We believe in environmental stewardship and work alongside leading environmental consultants to create an actionable strategy to help prepare for a greener, zero carbon future.
We adopt a zero-tolerance policy for bribery and corruption.
We adhere to GDPR and data handling requirements to ensure the safety of customer and employee data.
